| In
order to make room for a large functional kitchen
island, the wall adjoining the existing dining room
was moved back 2 feet. This allowed ample space around
the island and the planning desk. The soffit was needed
for bearing. The dining room was rarely used so the
homeowners decided to put it to much better use. It
was divided into 3 other functions. First, 2 feet
was used to expand the kitchen. A large part was used
to accommodate a large first floor laundry room, with
"cubby" lockers for the 4 kids and a cabinet bench
for miscellaneous items. Two coat closets were also
added. The last part was used for an extra large pantry
to hold, not only can goods and food, but also crafts,
cameras, small appliances, etc. |
