Advantages:
-
The finish of granite
cannot be affected by typical kitchen heat such as a hot pot,
making it ideal for preparing meals. The heat will not crack
granite counter tops.
-
Granite kitchen countertops
do not stain as other stones do. While all stones are porous
to an extent, granite has very low porosity. A sealer is applied
after it is
installed.
This protects it from coffee, cosmetics, and alcohol stains.
After a few years of use, it is recommended to re-seal the
granite so temporary staining does not occur. A few colors
of granite may show temporary staining with prolonged contact
of a substance with high pigments.
-
Typical kitchen bumps
and bruising will not chip or crack granite counters. Hitting
granite with a hammer or with a sharp instrument may cause
it to chip.
-
Granite can be polished
to achieve a high gloss. Many cooks prefer to prepare foods
and roll dough on granite surfaces.
-
Due to improved fabrication
processes, the cost of granite countertops is competitive
with other solid surfaces.

Edges: You can request several
edge profiles to give your granite kitchen countertops different
looks. The selection of edges includes straight edge, half or
quarter bevel, ¼ round, half or full bullnose, or other combinations
for the top and bottom. For sketches of various granite counter
tops edging, click on the following link: edging

Selecting Slabs: Your actual
granite that you buy will be somewhat different than a picture
or a sample, because of the natural variation from one slab to
another or even within the same slab. The best way to select a
color is to contact Noll Remodeling to set up a visit to our granite
supplier. After visiting, we can put your name on an exact piece,
and even break off a piece to take home with you to use for decorating
purposes.
Cleaning
granite countertops: Most suppliers recommend using a mild dish
detergent and warm water to clean your granite. However, we have
found that soap can leave streaks and requires you to go over
it a few times to leave a shine. The best method is to use warm
water and wipe with a special cloth called "Miracle
Cloths", which leave your granite counters totally streak-free.
Wipe it with a wet miracle cloth, and then use a dry one for drying.
These cloths will even get grease up. Do not use abrasive cleaners,
vinegar, or other cleaners containing acids on granite counter
tops.
What is granite? Granite is
the second hardest substance next to diamonds. Granite is quarried
from the earth, formed deep in the earth's mantle at extremely
high temperatures under extremely high pressures for millions
of years. It is made of very hard-crystallized quartz and feldspar
and has rich patterns of veining.
Granite slabs are typically quarried
58" - 74" high by 108" - 124" long. If the
layout of your granite counters requires a seam, we will discuss
this with you so that it is place in the best location.
