As you analyze kitchen plans,
keep in mind that you will be making tradeoffs for several alternatives
of kitchen designs. Even if you had all the space in the world,
you will have to make tradeoffs for the efficient utilization
of the space.

Selecting your appliances is one of the first
things to do for kitchens design. It is helpful to have an
idea of the dimensions, before the kitchen designer draws
a preliminary plan. Before they can finalize the kitchen plan,
they will need the exact specifications and dimensions of
your appliances. Noll Builders and Remodelers would be glad to bring our
kitchen designer to your home and review kitchen designs with
you for your remodeling project in the Cincinnati area. |
When evaluating kitchen plans, we
consider how one brings groceries into kitchens, and where they
are stored. You will want to make sure that you have enough counter
space in the right location to make this process quick and efficient.
Some kitchen designs include a pantry cabinet.
If you include this as part of your kitchen cabinetry, make sure that
you visit your cabinet showroom at a cabinet supply store. It
is important that you open up the pantry cabinet, operate the
shelves, and look at the width and height of the shelves, to make
sure it is functional for the items you would place in it.

If you need more space, consider
building a pantry in addition to, or in replace of, a pantry cabinet.
When we move walls or remodel an adjoining room to create a larger
kitchen, we often design an over-sized pantry that can not only
hold can goods and cereal boxes, but also provide a place for
miscellaneous items such as light bulbs, cameras, crafts, portable
appliances, and bulk storage.

Of course, it is nice to have the oven or
double oven close and convenient to the workspace. The oven is
often placed out of the way more due to other more important constraints
of kitchens design. Usually, you are not in and out of your oven
continually. However, when baking cookies, it is convenient for
it to be not too far from your kitchen island.
The microwave is typically used less than the 3 main points of
the triangle, so it can be placed further from the main working
area. It is used frequently for heating foods up just before eating,
so it is important to be close to the eating area.
Our kitchen designer can provide detailed
drawings of the kitchen layout, including each cabinet's dimensions
for you to review. In addition, we can show you an actual computer-
generated
picture of how your kitchen will look. This will include different
elevation drawings from various angles. Click here to see examples

Ambient Lighting: In most houses there is
insufficient lighting, if only a few recessed can lights have
been installed originally, making the kitchen dysfunctional. We
typically recommend that several recessed cans be added for good
kitchen plans. These should be placed above the counterspace,
in walkways, and possibly in other areas of the kitchen. The most
common recessed light is 6", while 4" recessed cans
can give more character in certain areas. Natural light is always
pleasant and desirable, but a well-planned kitchen lighting package
will make any kitchen bright and cheerful.
Task Lighting: You may want to install
task lighting anywhere you want very good lighting for a specific
task. This may include: fluorescent fixtures under cabinets, pendant
lights above the island for an elegant look and functionality,
and recessed cans above a desk or sink area.
Accent Lighting: Incandescent mini-tubes
can be run above cabinets to create a mood and to function as
a nightlight. You can put lighting inside a glass door cabinet
to showcase decorative pieces and to provide interest.
