Wouldn't you rather go to the gym or play tennis for exercise than taking extra time to cook in your kitchen? Note that if the distances are too short, the working space will be cramped, especially if have others helping. Try to keep the main traffic flow, through the kitchen to other parts of the house, away from the 3 main working areas as much as possible.

The minimum distance should be 4 feet to any point. The maximum is 9 feet to any point. The total perimeter of the triangle for optimal kitchen design is between 12 and 26 feet. The configuration of your space and other considerations may force you to break this rule to an extent, but this is a good starting point and a good target to have.
